Hampton is a major growth centre for Peterborough and the long-term supply of good, affordable housing for potential new work force as well as the excellent amenities located around the Serpentine shopping centre makes it an attractive location for businesses.
The purpose-built 30,000 sq ft three-storey, detached office building has been commissioned by Kelway to support its expanding operations and will accommodate over 350 of its staff. Artisan were chosen as the preferred developer and contractor because of their track record throughout East Anglia for delivering high quality, modern offices and business developments as well as their knowledge and expertise demonstrated throughout the selection process.
The new premises will be designed to achieve a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating, making it one of the most efficient buildings to be constructed in the area.
OPUS occupies a prominent 8.7-acre site within the Cygnet Park business area of Hampton. Kelway’s new premises have been conceptually designed by Artisan with Peterborough-based architect firm David Turnock Architects to specifically meet the requirements of Kelway’s business and its employees.
As the UK’s fastest growing IT solutions supplier and provider, Kelway employs over 800 staff with regional offices across the UK. The move to its new premises will see some jobs relocating from Huntingdon, London and other locations, as well as creating additional jobs in Peterborough.
Planning was secured within six weeks of the application being registered thanks to the help and assistance given by Peterborough City Council. Detailed designs have now been undertaken in tandem with the planning process and the onsite construction period will last for 28 weeks from the initial start on site.
Kelway is very aware of its environmental responsibilities and, in commissioning a new building, wants to mitigate the long-term impact of the new building. The company has therefore requested the design meets a BREEAM standard of Excellence (the world’s leading design and assessment method for sustainable buildings) for which Artisan are approved providers.
This is Artisan’s third commission at the OPUS site, having already completed development of an 11,000 sq ft administrative office for the UK learning disability charity Mencap, and another 11,000 sq ft regional office for Chartered Certified accountants and Chartered tax advisers, Bulley Davey.
